Pele, The Volcano Goddess Awakens, Pierre Riche

Pierre Riche, a Watsonville sculptor, is exhibiting “Pele, the Volcano Goddess, Awakens” in Cloverdale. Pierre’s primary inspiration for this sculpture was drawn from the 2018 volcanic eruptions on Hawaii. “I put a face to this powerful and natural force of destruction and was guided by the myth of “Pele, the volcano goddess story. I used the personality of an enraged and vengeful woman that Pele is symbolized as to bring her mythology alive.” Located on Cloverdale Blvd. and E 2nd Street, it is 6 ft. high x 3 ft. wide and 6 ft. deep and is sponsored by Nancy Dalwin, President of the Cloverdale Arts Alliance

Pierre describes his art as the expressive nature of the human spirit and the power of will and the dynamic movement of life within people. The term for his sculpture technique is direct metal sculpting.
