Oculus
Peter Crompton and Robyn Spencer Crompton, from Santa Rosa, are well known as a creative husband and wife team collaborating on many projects. Peter specializes in the sculptural form and Robyn in mosaic surface design. Together they have created a garden full of surreal sculptural works. 13 years ago they started putting parts of stage sets that Peter had designed in their rambling garden.
According to Peter, "Although most of our work is figurative, in the last few years, we have tried to make minimal pieces that feature their environment. This piece is intended as a frame through which to look, and also a metaphor for the eye that perceives, hence the title: "Oculus", which means both a circular window and an eye. Since this piece is made of an old redwood fence from our property. It also has a personal meaning to me as a boundary marker."
"Oculus" is 8 ft. 4 in. high x 8’wide x 3′ deep and its composition is steel and wood. David McChesney is the sponsor of this sculpture located near the south corner of E. Second St. and Cloverdale Blvd.
