< Return to “The Past”
In Stan Huncilman’s artist statement he says: “WHAT I KNOW. All art is an abstraction. I think more about the act of creation than the outcome.”
When you view the following sculptures Stan exhibited in Cloverdale, will you smile at his colorful, whimsical works of art or will your knit your brows in wonder?
Stan Huncilman Works
Alchemist Dilemma
2010 “Alchemist Dilemma" 120"H x 48"W x 36"D – welded steel and painted.
"Alchemist's Dilemma" is part of the All My Psyches series. That series explored abstract and figurative boundaries.
La Menyna
2011 "La Menyna" 90"H x 34"W x 28"D - welded steel and polyester resin.
A whimsical interpretation of Velázquez's las Meninas. Stan received Honorable Mention for “LaMenyna"
Hydromaticus
2012 "Hydromaticus" 60” x 146” x 34” – welded and painted steel.
One day I looked around my studio at a the number of "mistakes or unused elements" stacked here and there and after a few sketches and a lot of work Hydromaticus was created.
Wigwam Widow
2013 "Wigwam Widow" 72" x 26" x 18" – welded painted steel.
Wigwam Widow is part of Stan’s All My Psyches Series. According to the sculptor, “This series lives between the integration and contradiction of our psyches hesitant elements. This sculpture captures the inspiration that is extant in the daily realm of the senses; particularly the notion that times past, time present and time future influence the mind.
Rwenzori
2014 "Rwenzori" 78" x 36" x 28" – painted, welded steel and resin.
This sculpture is from Stan’s All My Psyches Series. The inspiration for this and other sculptures in this series is an abstracted human form combined with a schematicated interpretation of the mind."
Caerus
2015 "Caerus" 75” x 20” x 30” – welded and painted steel.
“Caerus” from the Wihnetoo Series is commitment to the process of creativity, the adventure that occurs in the creator’s mind. The artist is in transit and his “vehicles” only appear to be stationary objects.
Cordellia
2016 "Cordellia" 90” x 16” x 20” – welded, painted steel.
This sculpture is also from the Wihnetoo Series. One of the forces of sculpting is the infinite ether of life, the imagination.
Theororama
2017 "Theororama" 84“ x 24” x 24” – pressure formed, welded steel painted.
Great ironies occur in the creative process such as when one tries to paint with words or be dynamic with form. In this sculptor’s sculpture, inspiration wells from unknown depts. Swirls about then it’s gone. “Theororama” is an attempt.
Capricho
2018 "Capricho" 57" x 21" x 21" – pressure formed, and welded steel painted.
Stan states that "Creativity is a capricious character. Beware the horns. It wells from the
unknown; swirling, teasing, taunting and beguiling, then it’s gone and unaccountable. When all is said and done there is only a sculpture to prove it existed. “Capricho" is a sculpture that dodged the horns." Capricho is Spanish for capricious or whim.
Psychophysico
2019 "Psychophysico" 75” x 22” x 18” – welded steel and painted.
Stan states that his sculpture "Psychophysico” came to be as an exercise assuming the
mind and body are distinct entities and perhaps not always in harmony.
Harappan Swansong
2020 "Harappan Swansong" 88” x 25” x 25” – welded and painted steel.
“Harappan Swansong” started with the wheel of inner dharma turning ever so relentlessly and ended with antennae of resistance. In between lies the rub of folly found and folly lost.
“Harappan Swansong” received the First Place award.
